About Put-in-Bay

Over 2 million people annually discover the magic of the Bass Islands of Lake Erie. Put-in-Bay Ohio on South Bass Island is the crown jewel of the Lake Erie islands of Ohio. Put-in-Bay is one of the most unique places you will ever visit. The tiny two by four mile island is dotted with historic homes, the nation’s third tallest monument, quaint restaurants, unique shops, and local pubs. Beautiful water surrounds Put-in-Bay where you will find the best walleye and perch fishing in the United States.

There are many amazing things to do at Put-in-Bay, with daily activities, island tours, special events and festivals that are sure to appeal to everyone. The Lake Erie Islands Historical Museum is a great place to start learning about Put-in-Bay and Lake Erie Islands history, including the “golden age” of hotels, the island’s wine making heritage, and island life in general. The museum offers 6,000 square feet of displays and exhibits. There are also several tours available, including a narrated historical tour of Put-in-Bay, winery tours, historic home tours, antique car museum, cave tours, and National Park Service Ranger Programs about the War of 1812 and the Battle of Lake Erie.

You can spend part of your day biking, hiking, fishing, sailing, boating, golfing and even doing a little “rock climbing”. Or enjoy the novelty of exploring Put-in-Bay on a golf cart. There are many golf cart rentals on the island that rent by the hour and day, and some overnight by reservation. Carts are available in 2, 4, 6 and 8 seats.

The number one past time by far on the island is shopping, and Put-in-Bay offers a large variety of independently owned gift, apparel and souvenir shops, and a candy store that ranks in the top 5 confectionery destinations in the state of Ohio.

Put-in-Bay offers a large variety of dining experiences, from full service restaurants to fast food, and whatever comes in between. There is something for every taste, dining style, and budget. You’ll always find breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks served somewhere on the island. Fresh Lake Erie Perch and Walleye are both favorites on the island. There is also fresh seafood, steaks, pizza, sub sandwiches, paninis, pasta, lettuce wraps, burritos, burgers, baskets, family meals, and most locations have a kids menu.

DeRivera Park downtown also has grills and picnic tables for those who like to pack a picnic lunch. Or you can forget the basket and buy provisions at the island grocery or carry-out.
