Among other members of Congress, Senator Mitch McConnell joined the growing list of cosponsors for Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act (S. 313) on March 24, 2014.

On April 11, Senator McConnell sent this message via email to other supporters of the bill, which he also posted on Change.org:
“I am proud to have co-sponsored the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act of 2013. This bipartisan legislation would assist Kentuckians with disabilities and parents who have children with disabilities.

I have heard from parents across the Commonwealth and the nation who have children with disabilities and find it difficult to encourage their independence and save money for the future. I proudly support the ABLE Act on behalf of the Kentucky families, children, and individuals living with disabilities, and I look forward to working to help get this legislation through the Senate and enacted into law.”

As we reported in our post Support the Fight for Disabled to Achieve a Better Life Experience, 31 year old Sara Wolff, an independent young woman with Down syndrome, started a petition on Change.org to encourage Congress to pass the bill. As of April 11, the petition has garnered 245,537 supporters; it still needs 54,462 more signatures to meet Sara’s goal of 300,000.

As our recent article, Support for Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act Growing in Congress, stated, the bill currently has the support of 354 members of the House of Representatives and 70 members of the Senate.
