marilyn-chadwick-headshot-092116Marilyn Chadwick is a speech/language pathologist and has been a part of the Facilitated Communication Institute since 1992. She has previously played the roles of Director of Training and Assistant Director of the FCI, developing the various levels of training and working to publish standards on the method. She has her Master’s degree in Speech/Language Pathology from Eastern Michigan University.

Marilyn has worked extensively with families, school districts and service agencies supporting the communication needs of children and adults with severe disabilities. She is considered a leader in understanding Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies, and has provided training for Facilitated Communication across the United States, as well as Canada, Israel, Sri Lanka, Brazil and Europe.

As the Assistant Director of the Facilitated Communication Institute (1992-2010,) Marilyn has contributed to the development of numerous videos and training materials, organized conferences, and helped develop FC Training standards and a Master Trainer curriculum. She is currently in a private practice based in Syracuse, New York.

Marilyn works within a framework of total communication and seeks to build multiple strategies toward a system of effective communication. Her more recent projects have focused on the combination of AAC/FC strategies and speaking. She has been trained in the Feldenkrais Method of somatic education, Neurologic Music Therapy, and is currently studying the Masgutova Method (MNRI). Her focus in using these various methods is to support those who cannot speak and to independently access AAC devices for communication.
