Grant From Answers for Autism Helps Support April 2014 Master Trainer Conference in Fishers

Answers for Autism presents a $3000 grant check to help support Saved By Typing’s Master Trainer conference to be held April 26-27, 2014 at Hamilton Southeastern High School in Fishers.

The Answers for Autism Grant was recently awarded to Saved By Typing to help seed-fund our Master Trainer event on April 26-27, 2014 at Hamilton Southeastern High School. Our immediate aim is to enhance the support available for Indiana nonverbal persons who might communicate, and to develop Master Trainers in Indiana.

Words cannot adequately express our appreciation to Answers for Autism, but our own John Smyth typed this note of thanks as our official response to this wonderful and generous grant:

Master Trainers are typing supporters who have helped at least one person move to independent typing. The Master Trainer Academy is part of Syracuse University’s Department of Education and it’s Center for Communication and Inclusion. John Smyth typed the following poem and commentary about Master Trainers and the difference they make in the lives of the isolated nonverbal-

Master Trainers are freedom fighters
for this soul and that.
They leave independent lives behind them.

Master Trainers are a unique approach to the world.
Where a Master Trainer goes, new possibilities occur.

Master Trainers are reachable guides
for the lost soul struggling in darkness.
Mastery of real independence lives with you.

Master Trainers are gods.
We will follow and master train the physician within.

‘Tisn’t often that one writes about those who give voice to weary’ waiting others. Talking in metaphors about such persons opens all possibilities of understanding their place. Rich, quite worldly people miss the images I paint, while autistic nonverbals would detail the depth of each trainer’s incredible spiritual wealth. Really, I write as a grateful ascending walker from the depths of hell. Were it not for master trainers, I would still be there. It is an honor to write this about them.”
